Blunden, Andy. “Bourdieu on Status, Class, and Culture”. Mira. N.p., 2004. Web. July 10, 2014. <http://home.mira.net/~andy/works/bourdieu-review.htm>
  • This website talks about Bourdieu’s theories on capital and habitus in greater detail than what was presented on this website. For example, it elaborates more on the types of capital (e.g. social and educational capital). Also found on this site are topics that weren’t covered in this essay, such as cultural relativism, idealism, and objectivism.
“Critical Approaches to The Great Gatsby: Marxist Interpretations”. Cross-refit.info. Cross-refit.info, 2014. Web. July 10, 2014. <http://www.crossref-it.info/textguide/The-Great-Gatsby/34/2452>
  • This page demonstrates how a Marxist lens could be used to examine The Great Gatsby in particular. It looks at how class is represented in the novel, and provides a good starting place when looking for ideas on how to approach The Great Gatsby from a Marxist perspective.
Delahoyde, Michael. “Marxism”. Washington State University. N.p., n.d. Web. July 10, 2014. <http://public.wsu.edu/~delahoyd/marxist.crit.html>
  • This page gives a general overview of Marxism – history, theories, and so on. More importantly, however, it demonstrates how a text can be analyzed from a Marxist perspective, and shows how Marxists view literature: they are the results of the beliefs and ideologies that existed in the era in which they were written.
Fitzgerald, F. Scott. The Great Gatsby. New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1925. Print.
Mastin, Luke. “Marxism”. Philosophy Basics. N.p., 2008. Web. July 10, 2014. <http://www.philosophybasics.com/branch_marxism.html>
  • This website gives a thorough but accessible introduction to the basis of Marxism as well as its main concepts. The content is quite varied – we find a brief history of Marxism, its subtypes, and also some perceived flaws and criticisms. Altogether, the page is very useful for developing a solid understanding of this critical lens.
Wardhana, Akhmad Kusuma. “Analysis of ‘Materialistic Perception’ in F. Scott Fitzgerald Using Marxist Literary Criticism”. Academia.edu. Academia, 2014. Web. July 10, 2014. <http://www.academia.edu/3824407/Analysis_of_Materialistic_Perception_in_F._Scot_Fitzgerald_Using_Marxist_Literary_Criticism>

  • This academic article also uses a Marxist lens to examine The Great Gatsby. It covers slightly different topics from the page on cross-refit.info, instead looking at class struggle, commodification, and the American Dream. The analysis is very logical and the interpretations are quite insightful.
